Ron Raper Scores Another Quarter Horse Training Title

Ron Raper earned another leading Quarter Horse training title in 2009 at Hoosier Park Racing and Casino at the conclusion of the season Saturday, Oct. 24. Raper, who was not present for the presentation, earned 16 wins and more than $300,000 in earnings for the award. Tony Cunningham, 2008 leading Quarter Horse trainer, finished in second place with 11 wins.

He has been a mainstay on the Indiana Quarter Horse racing circuit since 2004. He earned leading trainer titles in 2005, 2006, and 2007 and is currently Hoosier Park’s all-time leading Quarter Horse trainer with 62 wins and nearly $800,000 in career earnings.

Raper’s main assistant trainer was available for the trophy presentation prior to the final Quarter Horse race of the season on the closing day card. Jeff Smith, general manager of racing, made the presentation to the Raper Stable. Raper’s main rider, Harold Collins, also secured the leading Quarter Horse jockey title in 2009.
