Lovely Vin Looks Lovely As He Extends Win Streak
Lovely Vin turned in another dominating performance and remained unbeaten in three starts when he cruised to an easy seven length victory in the featured event at Hoosier Park Racing & Casino on Sept. 20. Under leading jockey Leandro Goncalves, Lovely Vin led every step of the way to take the $41,000 allowance optional claiming event and capture his first victory over Hoosier Park’s surface. The three-year-old gelding arrived in Indiana after posting two wins over the turf at Evangeline Downs.
Lovely Vin broke alertly from post eight and grabbed the early advantage to set a well handled pace from the start, reaching the first quarter in :23.37. Father Mick and Orlando Mojica maintained the inside advantage and stalked the pace from second as Jemaru and Richard Bracho raced three wide while chasing the early pace. Goncalves relaxed his mount well on the front as they led the field of nine through the second station in :46.76. Mysterious Noise and Tommy Turner made their bid as the field began to tighten around the final turn.
Impressively, Lovely Vin found another gear entering the stretch and opened up five lengths on Father Mick before reaching the wire. Father Mick held on for the second place finish while Mysterious Noise rounded out the trifecta. The heavily favored, Dueling Alex proved to be no threat and finished seventh. Lovely Vin covered the one mile contest in 1:36.82 over a fast rated track and returned $11.00 for the win.
“He broke sharp tonight,” winning rider Leandro Goncalves noted. “He did everything I asked him to do. He relaxed really well on the front and when the other horses started closing in, I asked him and he took off again. He ran really hard all the way through the wire.”
Trained by Thomas Amoss, the brown gelding has now won four his seven lifetime starts. With the win, Lovely Vin pushed his career earnings over the $65,000 mark for owner Maggi Moss. Sired by Vindication, Lovely Vin was bred in Louisiana by Southern Equine Stables, LLC.
