Flashy Kid Captures Hoosier Park Feature

Flashy Kid captured his first win of the season in the featured event, a $41,000 allowance, at Hoosier Park Racing & Casino on Saturday, Sept. 29. With leading jockey Leandro Goncalves in the irons, Flashy Kid took command in the stretch and won going away to notch his second victory over Hoosier Park’s surface. The three-year-old rebounded well off two second place finishes in amongst the same company at Hoosier Park earlier this month.

Flashy Kid, set up nicely by Goncalves, broke alertly from post eight and was allowed to settle on the outside of the public’s second choice, Flatter Creek and Orlando Mojica who set the early pace of :23.09. The field of eight was tightly packed through the first turn as Hesraisincain and Malcom Franklin were in the early mix racing third. Flatter Creek continued to call the shots down the backside through a half mile time in :47.54 with Flashy Kid still waiting for his cue on the outside. The pace began to quicken as the field negotiated the final turn and the top duo began to pull away from the rest of the field.

The pair were on even terms at the top of the stretch but Flashy Kid found another gear under urging from Goncalves to finish 2 ¼ lengths in front of Flatter Creek. Nickers for Candy made a late rally in the stretch to get up for the third place finish. As the heavy betting favorite, Flashy Kid returned $4.00 for the win.
The gray colt covered the one mile contest in a final time of 1:38.03 over a track rated fast.

“I know this horse really well,” winning rider Leandro Goncalves noted. “I broke his maiden here last year. He can be a little lazy sometimes so I wanted to put him in the race. It worked out well for us because I was able to keep him close and made sure he didn’t have too much work to do on the end of the race. He waited for the horses in stretch a little bit, but he’s a nice horse and he was able to get the job done today.”

Sired by Flashy Bull, the three-year-old colt has now won two of 12 lifetime starts while bankrolling over $140,000 in purse earnings. Owned by the Just for Fun Stable Inc., Flashy Kid was bred in Indiana by Swifty Farms.
