Hoosier Park and Flat 12 Bierwerks Partner to Launch Canned Dan Patch Wit Craft
In honor of Indiana’s most famous and historic Standardbred racehorse, Dan Patch, Hoosier Park Racing & Casino and Flat12 Bierwerks will officially launch a canned version of Dan Patch Wit craft beer in August. The popular Belgian witbier draft has been available at Hoosier Park’s Dan Patch Brewhouse since 2014 and Flat12 Bierwerks’ tasting room since 2015, and the canned product will now be available at select stores and outlets across Indiana. The launch party will take place at Flat12 Bierwerks in Indianapolis on Saturday, Aug. 5 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The Aug. 5 launch party at Flat12 Bierwerks, located at 414 N. Dorman Street in Indianapolis, will feature a racehorse appearance, free slot play giveaways from Hoosier Park, and food for purchase from Hoagies & Hops, Flat12’s authentic Pennsylvania-style eatery. Six-packs of the Dan Patch Wit will be available for purchase at the Indianapolis brewery, as well as their “Kentuckiana” location in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
In addition to retail stores and outlets across Indiana, the canned beer product will also be available at Hoosier Park Racing & Casino in Anderson, and Winner’s Circle off track betting properties in downtown Indianapolis and New Haven. The draft product will continue to be available for fans at Hoosier Park’s Dan Patch Brewhouse.
Dan Patch, the inspiration behind the Dan Patch Wit, was an American Standardbred pacer who became a major celebrity in the early 1900s when harness racing was one of the largest sports in the nation. Unsurpassed for decades, Dan Patch held the world record for the fastest mile and even beat his own record by four seconds at one point.
The Dan Patch Brewhouse was opened at Hoosier Park in honor of the famous race horse in 2014 along with the launch of the Flat12 Dan Patch Wit draft. Additionally, Dan Patch is remembered every year at Hoosier Park with the signature $300,000 Dan Patch Stakes, which takes place on Friday, Aug. 11 this year.
“It’s been three years since our beverage team worked with Flat12 to launch the Dan Patch Wit draft,” said Amy Jacobs, Hoosier Park’s director of food and beverage. “We wanted a beer that would appeal to a large variety of people across all seasons, and we’re thrilled to know it’s become popular enough to can and distribute. This is how Dan Patch’s story lives on, and how we continue to grow the sport of harness racing.”
