Calling All Food Lovers
Calling all food lovers or ‘foodies’, this is your time to enter the magical heaven I like to call the Homestretch Steakhouse. If you’re a foodie which means, a lover of all food— momma made it, you ate it without asking questions. We all know I am a broke college student and I typically can’t go out, nor can I afford a thirty dollar steak once a week. Luckily our office is below the Steakhouse here at Hoosier Park Racing and Casino and I have the privilege to see and smell the gourmet food Chief Keith Angel creates day in and out. Racing fans, far and wide, this is your chance to get some up close details about some of the kitchens favorite dishes here at the Homestretch Steakhouse.
First things first, you have to have some roughage in your diet. Let’s start off with some leafy greens— a Grilled Romaine Salad. That’s right, I said grilled salad. I didn’t even know you can grill a salad, but Chief Angel says it is possible and let me tell you what, it’s got me feeling some type of way. It has this smoky flavor that combines with the bacon, creamy caesar dressing and flakes of parmesan cheese. So far, pretty good start.
So I’ve never been a huge fan of Bruschetta. Momma would always make it as a appetizer for guests and no matter how many times I tried it, I never really cared for it. I would like to meet the saint who had the idea to put avocado, tomatoes, steak tips, blue cheese aioli and a special sauce on a toasted crostini. It’s even better than it sounds. It’s holy, moly amazing. As all the hip kids say, 10/10 would recommend.
I never thought fruit and meat would taste so good together, but you learn something new everyday! Some how the Steakhouse chiefs found the perfect combination to apple-walnut chutney, cranberries and a perfect top 5% ‘prime’ cut of pork chop delicately and put together to make a mouth watering entree. Then for a side, the garlic mashed potatoes will have you floating on cloud nine in food amazing-ness.
Every story deserves a perfect ending. The steakhouse has five perfect endings to your dinner. Honestly I don’t know how I am still physically eating, but when the waitress started talking about a piece of cheesecake drizzled with caramel and a fancy name that I can’t even pronounce, but right now names do not matter. It’s the fact that this cheesecake tastes like a caramel hard candy. There isn’t enough tasty metaphors to describe the magic of this fantastic pastry. You know that Drake song, he says, “Why you gotta fight with me at cheesecake?” My advice to you is, don’t fight with me on this cheesecake.
I usually save the best for last. I have to shine some light on the staff here at the Homestretch Steakhouse. Each waiter and waitress have real personalities, real humor and are incredible people to share your racing experience with. They will tell you about their favorite meal and even help you make a bet or two. They will make you laugh until you cry with dad-jokes, but most importantly— they make you feel at home and welcome you with open arms.
All in all, the experience here at the Steakhouse is one of the best in the state. Good food, good people and a good time. What more could you ask for?
